Model: Teaching Students to See

Have you ever had a teacher who opened a door, showed you a path, and illuminated an idea that changed you?

It is curiosity coupled with the mastery of a topic.  The student has to bring the curiosity for it to work, but when it is connected with expert knowledge it is like a spark hitting jet fuel.

The best teachers know how to engage students who are not innately curious about their content or subject matter.  They bring their energy/passion/knowledge/hard work into the situation and that changes everything.  (This doesn’t happen 100% of the time.)

This idea is about teaching people to see for themselves…present the idea, step back and let them play with it, and then step back in if necessary.  The teachers that do this, spark life-long learners…that’s a legacy!
